Welcome to the website of the Wilmslow Civic Trust (formerly called Wilmslow Trust)
We are a voluntary civic group dedicated to fostering a pleasant environment in greater Wilmslow.
We aim to raise awareness of issues concerning landscape, buildings, and general amenity; preserving what is good in Wilmslow and vetting proposals for change.
We are an amenity group who first met in 1961 when there was a threat to the character of Wilmslow. Local people decided that they needed their views to be known and respected in matters such as the preservation of the Green Belt, and that Wilmslow should not be swamped by an endless, amorphous urban sprawl (see separate section on the history of the Trust).
Today we have about 90 members, drawn from Wilmslow, Handforth, Styal and Alderley Edge. We canvass the views of our members and other local residents on key issues and act as an intermediary between them and local government.
We run a programme of interesting talks through the winter, and visits to places of interest during the summer.
